To help Georgia improve its cybersecurity posture, the Georgia Cyber Center opened its doors to the public on July 10.
The $100 million Georgia Cyber Center in Augusta, Ga., is a private-public partnership where leaders from state agencies such as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and Georgia Department of Defense are working with universities to strengthen cyber defenses, combat the growing number and complexity of cyberattacks and build a talent pipeline.
The Georgia Technology Authority manages the operations of the Georgia Cyber Center. The facility includes a cyber range for education and training purposes and a demonstration space to highlight cyber research taking place at throughout the University System of Georgia. GBI’s new Cyber Crime Unit will also be housed in the center so allow law enforcement professionals across the state can access to the agency’s expertise in digital forensics. TheClubhou.se, an Augusta-based non-profit, will also manage an incubator at the center.
“The Georgia Cyber Center is the culmination of Gov. Nathan Deal’s vision to position the state of Georgia as a national and world hub for cyber innovation and training,” said Calvin Rhodes, GTA executive director and state CIO. “Working with outstanding partners and supporters, we’ve been able to bring the vision to life in just 17 months.”
