Interview with Global CEO, IT Services Competence Platform – Tomasz Pyrak

“Fear of missing out is an important factor for adoption.”

1. Tell us a little bit about your role and how you got here?
I graduated from Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Oakville, Ontario, in Canada. I have over 20 years of experience in the IT market, in technical and managerial positions of many IT projects and companies. Currently, in the position of Global Chief Executive Officer of the IT Services Competence Platform, I’m participating in the most exciting project in my professional life. Thanks to an investment by Oaktree Capital Management and Cornerstone Partners we’re creating a capital group whose development strategy is based on an intensive M&A program and fast organic growth in the Group’s companies. The goal is to create a global organization offering competences, expertise and software solutions for clients from Northern and Western Europe and the U.S., through our own delivery centers located in CEE countries and Asia.

2. Given the massive proliferation of Information and software technology, how do you see the IT market evolving over the next few years?
The API-enabled economy and overall automation are on the rise, including automated AI-supported decision making by IT systems. Simplified business processes will replace complex ones, accelerating automation and automatic business transaction processing.

3. What do you see as the single most important technology trend or development that’s going to impact us?
The usual answer to this question is AI, but there’s more to it. For instance, low code platforms and RPA that help to create more citizen developers are gaining traction.

4. How do you think M&A strategic focus helps in delivering better software services and solutions?
Nothing can replace practical experience, both in technology and in business. Combining these experiences and skills effectively is a great boost for our service offering and delivery capability.

5. How has data-driven and AI powered solutions contributed in the development of the IT Sector?
It’s the exponential growth of data analysis capabilities compared to standard techniques. Enterprises can make better decisions faster, target their offerings to customer groups with greater precision. New AI-enabled methods of interacting with IT systems lower the barriers to entry for the new family of digital services and products.

6. How do you differentiate your platform from other such IT platforms in the market?
Our approach is what makes us different. Our working name, the IT Services Competence Platform, points to the heart of the matter. First of all, we work around the matrix of technologies and market sectors that are strategic for us. Secondly, our acquisitions are based on filling this matrix with assets. After each acquisition we evaluate how the Platform is changing, how well it fits with our strategy. Of course, the company being adapted to our organization also goes through an integration process. Thirdly, there’s no core entity that’s the most important and has a deciding vote. By definition all the Platform’s partners are equally important. That’s our advantage.

7. What’s the biggest challenge that you in your organizational role need to tackle to make any strategic decisions work?
My the biggest challenge in the near term is communication, integration and building a common offering for the IT Services Competence Platform. We need to communicate to our employees, contractors and business partners about how our organization is developing. This is a key aspect of building our integration and competitive advantage. When it comes to the joint product offering, there has to be synergy and cross-selling for clients in the region and around the world. At this stage, meetings with potential and current clients are invaluable.

8. How do you prepare for a Technology-centric World?
We constantly monitor and invest in our R&D activities, according to the latest trends in a dynamically changing technology and business landscape. We discuss with our clients – CIOs, CTOs, CEOs – where we want to go together and how we want to get there.

9. What’s your smartest work-related shortcut or productivity hack?
An engaged team. Agile business and operating models. Make a decision quick but be ready to adjust to reach your goals.

10. How do you prepare for a cognitive world as a leader?
We help our clients move further along the road to a cognitive world. Companies are increasingly using solutions like AI, cognitive technology and machine learning, with increasing expectations of real, measurable support for their business processes and a positive, notable effect on results. For many of them,

fear of missing out is an important factor for adoption.

11. What is the core software technology capability of your firm that you bring to people? Where does your product fit in vis-a-vis the customer life cycle?
Enterprise software development and maintenance, Salesforce and User Experience, including cutting-edge web and mobile.

12. Are there any new features or upcoming upgrades that you’re excited about and would like to give us a sneak peek into?
The next upgrade for our organization is rebranding. IT Services Competence Platform is a working name; we created it to support the process of integrating our teams. We’re working on a new brand, which we will communicate broadly and which will strengthen our organization.

13. What is your take on the massive explosion of IT across so many categories? Do you see competition, opportunities to partner and/or integrate?
Companies around the world and across all industries are seeing the benefit of digitalisation. This is an area were we can be a partner for companies that need to build such platforms. Massive explosions means combining multiple skills in tech solutions for business. Having right business partners to build new experiences using their APIs is critical to shortening the time to market which has become the number one priority.

14. Could you share for our readers, an infographic or description depicting your technology stack?

15. Can you share a screenshot of the homepage of your smartphone? It would be interesting to see some of the apps you personally use on a daily basis to get things done and stay on top of your day?
